Grimsby is a town on the eastern coast of England, more specifically on the south bank of the Humber Estuary. As a borough of Humberside, it’s a simple and wonderful travel excursion for any group travelling from the Cheshire Area. With a film being made about the place, you can tell just how popular this place is to visit with a group.
Firstly, you can check out all of Grimsby Town’s history with the Vikings, and how it has changed from this to a distinguished maritime town. Known as Great Grimsby to set it apart from little Grimsby, the Maritime Town has changed drastically through the second world war, being a base of operation for minesweeper ships in the North Sea. After this, Grimsby became one of the targets for German flight paths, and the rest is history. You can see all the history regarding Grimsby at its public war memorials, or through the local history museum.
To go hand in hand with the history of Grimsby, you can check out the Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre, in which you can find lots of history regarding one of the “toughest jobs in the world”. Discover life as a trawlerman in Grimsby, throughout the ages between 1950 and the current date, and learn a lot about the local town whilst you’re at it. With events happening here with galleries, collections and more, you can even visit the Ross Tiger, which is one of the oldest known diesel trawlers left in the UK (and could be the oldest!)
