Almost central to Derbyshire, Bakewell is a small market town that has stood since Anglo Saxon times. With great history along the great sights of Bakewell, there is also many buildings to see and activities to do, such as:
This church founded in 920ad is a landmark when it comes to Bakewell and Derbyshire as a whole. Creating such an atmosphere as a church with two 9th century Saxon crosses, the All Saints Church stands with its last rebuild being only back in the 1840’s meaning that it is a rather newly re-done Church. Featuring an organ built in 1810, the church is quite the landmark and here at vision we think it would be a great place to visit whilst passing through.
The Old House Museum located in Bakewell is a small museum that exhibits the local life and artefacts from their Derbyshire location. With over 500 years of use, the building was almost demolished before being saved in the 1950’s, it now serves as a museum that brings even more life to the joyous community that is Bakewell.
And last but not least – yes. This is the place that the famous “Bakewell pudding” originates.
The Bakewell Pudding has lasted not just around Bakewell but across the UK and even further, bringing a great taste to people’s homes (not to be confused with Bakewell Tart). Known to have been made “accidentally” around 1820, there are a few stories of how the pudding originated, with a few stores in the area claiming to hold the “original” recipe. Come along with Vision and stop off, where you can taste for yourself and decide who you think owns the original.
